About the role

The primary purpose of the Chief Development Officer is to lead the development, marketing, volunteer, and communications activities of the organization in an effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and manage annual development plan
  • Direct special event planning
  • Ensure timely recognition of donors and volunteers
  • Direct the agency’s marketing and public relations programs
  • Direct the volunteer program
  • Empower volunteer leaders to fundraise
  • Generate new ideas to increase revenue and donors
  • Report progress to leadership team and board
  • Build relationships with new donors and strengthen relationships with existing donors

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible fundraising and marketing experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities
  • Demonstrated success in program development/design, proposal writing, and grant management
  • Demonstrated success in special event fundraising
  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for multiple projects and complete them successfully in a timely manner with limited supervision
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing development plans, program reporting and assessment
  • Proven experience with volunteer management
  • Marketing and communication experience with social media, newsletters, annual reports, email campaigns, websites, among others
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and networking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with donor database and special events management platforms
  • Availability for occasional early morning, evening, and weekend activities
  • Self-motivated and disciplined to set and achieve goals
  • Passion for the mission-driven work and ethical fundraising practices

Qualifications

  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential
  • Knowledge of the community including community organizations and social service agencies
