Chief Analyst

About the role

The US is the largest market for battery storage in the world, and we're hiring the person who will shape and tell its story. As the public face of Modo Energy's US market intelligence, you will transform our data into industry-defining analysis, becoming the go-to voice for battery storage and power markets. This role is akin to Zillow’s Chief Economist—technically credible, backed by a research platform, and the reference point for an entire industry.

You will join our marketing team in New York, reporting to the Director of Marketing, with a dotted line into our research team. This is a build role: you’ll start as the voice and grow the US market intelligence function as it scales.

Responsibilities

• The narrative: Publish weekly analysis on US battery storage and power markets across major ISOs/RTOs. Own a flagship newsletter on the Modo platform. Set the agenda, don’t follow it.
• The stage: Represent Modo at 12+ industry events in year one, including RE+, ACP conferences, ISO market summits, stakeholder forums, and customer workshops. Deliver talks that resonate.
• The screen: Front our US video, podcast, and webinar output alongside our in-house production team. Become the trusted source for journalists seeking storage insights.
• The pipeline: Join strategic customer conversations as the credibility in the room. Your content should generate measurable demand.
• The team: Work daily with our Americas research analysts to ground every piece in Modo data. Your goal is to make Modo’s US research famous, not just yourself.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience working in or on US power markets, with deep expertise in battery storage.
• Fluency in at least two ISO/RTO markets, including market design, ancillary services, and revenue dynamics.
• A public track record of published analysis or talks. Applications without links will not progress.
• Proven ability to distill complex data into narratives that non-experts can repeat.
• A polished, confident communicator on stage, on camera, and in writing.
• Based in (or relocating to) New York.

Nice to have

• An existing industry following (LinkedIn, newsletter, podcast).
• Broadcast, podcast, or on-camera experience.
• Python or SQL literacy to collaborate credibly with analysts.
• Experience at a market research house, IPP, optimizer, developer, or trading desk.

Pay

Base salary range: $200,000–$300,000 per year, depending on experience. Modo Energy’s policy is to pay at the top of your personal market—if you’re exceptional, we’ll make it work.

Schedule

Hybrid: Tuesday to Thursday in our NYC office, with Monday and Friday flexible.
