About the role

The Chester County Planning Commission seeks a senior-level planner responsible for the review of subdivision and land development plans, land use ordinances, comprehensive plans, and other municipal planning documents required for county review under Act 247, the PA Municipalities Planning Code. A primary focus of the reviews is determining consistency with the county comprehensive plan, Landscapes3, as well as ensuring our municipal partners have the best professional planning and design guidance available as they consider proposed developments and planning policies within their communities. The Planning Commission operates in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review subdivision and land development plans, land use ordinances, comprehensive plans, and other municipal planning documents for compliance with Act 247 and county standards.
  • Assess consistency with the county comprehensive plan, Landscapes3.
  • Provide professional planning and design guidance to municipal partners.
  • Interpret and apply zoning and subdivision ordinance regulations.
  • Interact with municipal clients and agencies within and outside county government.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with the PA Municipalities Planning Code.
  • Ability to interpret subdivision and land development plans.
  • Understanding of zoning and subdivision ordinance regulations.
  • Knowledge of land use law, particularly as it applies in Pennsylvania.
  • Self-directed with strong verbal, writing, time management, and computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and working knowledge of GIS and ArcView software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a related field with six years of applied planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s Degree, Pennsylvania planning experience, and AICP certification are preferred.

Pay

Starting salary: $68,489
