About the role

The job is located within the Grocery department at Hy-Vee.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service.
• Escorts customers to products, secures items, loads/unloads heavy items, and passes along customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers.
• Operates cash register accurately, scans product, redeems coupons, issues rain checks, completes credit card transactions, counts change, and issues receipts.
• Plants merchandise in bags or boxes, gives packages to customers, and assists courtesy personnel as needed.
• Answers customer questions and concerns, and follows-up with appropriate personnel.
• Understands and follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets.
• Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, understands shelf tags, and maintains cleanliness of the work area.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Assists store management as required (e.g., store displays, decorations for special promotions/events).
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

• Must be able to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Must be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; and request supplies verbally or in writing.
• Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must have vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform in a fast-paced work environment.
