About the role

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service
• Escorts customers to products, secures items, loads/unloads heavy items, and passes along customer suggestions or requests
• Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers
• Operates cash register, scans product, redeems coupons, issues rain checks, and handles credit card transactions
• Plants merchandise in bags or boxes, assists courtesy personnel, and answers customer questions
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
• Reviews weekly store ad for price changes and sale items
• Keeps register area clean, ensures supplies are ready, and reports improper cash levels
• Compares cash register totals with actual amounts, gives cash refunds, and issues credit memos
• Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time
• Affords assistance to store management as needed (e.g., store displays, decorations for special promotions/events)
• Changes register tape and ribbons as necessary
• Assists in other areas of the store as needed

• Carries up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Has vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision
• Is physically able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
• Is frequently exposed to temperature extremes and possible dampness
• Is exposed to equipment movement hazards from a pallet jack, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents
• Works in a fast-paced work environment
