About the role
High Point & Affiliated Organizations is a health and human service agency committed to treating and preventing substance use disorders and mental illness. We offer a range of programs across Southeastern Massachusetts, including inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community-based services. The position is based at our Plymouth Outpatient Campus in Plymouth, MA.
Charge Nurse Requirements
- Experience in a behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment setting
- Two years’ supervisory experience preferred
- Must present as courteous and professional at all times
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas logically and clearly
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in using HPAHO’s electronic medical records
- Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others
- Understanding of the relationship between substance use and mental health issues
- Understanding of boundaries and ethics
- Compliance with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy, and HIPAA Regulations
- TB screening
- Certification in the HPHAO approved de-escalation program
- CPR Certification
Charge Nurse Duties and Responsibilities
- Compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, DMH, and other regulatory agencies
- Knowledge of ASAM criteria related to SUD care, monitoring withdrawal (COWS, CIWA), and nursing interventions
- Ensure patient care meets best practice standards
- Ensure compliance with High Point policies and procedures
- Recruitment, hiring, promotion, training, and evaluation of nursing staff
- Develop nursing and medication records on each patient
- Review and make recommendations regarding policies and procedures
- Report to Infection Control Committee as needed
- Maintain inventory, order medications, and equipment
- Schedule nurses to maintain adequate staffing patterns
- Monitor call-outs and provide direct patient care as needed
- Review incident reports and ensure accurate and timely completion
- Supervise nursing staff according to HPAO supervision policy
- Manage infection control data and reports
- Participate in required committee meetings
- Attend mandatory training to enhance professional and personal growth
- Provide patient education groups or designate another RN/LPN
- Ensure patient plan of care/treatment plan is updated
- Debrief after code blue or code green
- Utilize standard precautions
- Recognize the rights of patients/clients as defined by the patient’s rights policy
- Attend facility meetings and case conferences as directed
- Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Program Director, Site Director, Director of Nursing, CNO, or COO
OTP Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Dose as needed
- Collaborate with the OTP practitioner to arrange for yearly physicals
- Monitor methadone count
- Participate in MDT and manager meetings
- Order and maintain clinic supplies such as bottles and caps
- Complete daily and weekly documentation including Tally
- Enter and review laboratory results and infection control
