About the role
As a member of the Charge Entry team, you will assist the central billing office with entering office and hospital charges as part of the revenue cycle process for Tennessee Cancer Specialists.
Responsibilities
- Review all daily charges for completeness and accuracy.
- Review and identify charge form errors, making necessary system corrections by obtaining complete information from appropriate team members.
- Provide exceptional customer service through respectful communication, thorough listening, and asking appropriate questions in conversations with patients, coworkers, and other professionals.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of coding guidelines to identify inconsistencies during daily review of charges and audit of encounters against scheduled patients.
- Communicate any inconsistencies to management.
- Accurately post charges within 24 hours of charted encounter.
- Assist with additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in a business-related field preferred.
- Current Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC or AHIMA required. If not currently certified, must successfully complete certification within one year of starting the position.
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Located in the Knoxville area or within a commutable distance.
- At least one year of prior experience in a similar position preferred.
- Prior experience with specialty billing strongly preferred.
- Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years data entry experience.
- Medical business office experience preferred.
Physical demands
- Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies.
- Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other office equipment.
- Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.
- Necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
