Certified Veterinary Technician - Surgery

About the role

A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Able to administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Able to operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Able to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Requirements

• Must have WI CVT certification.
• Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
• Rotating on-call schedule required after training.

Qualifications

• Must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S.
• Not required to sponsor for an employment-based green card.

Skills

• Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Physical exam skills.
• Knowledge of normal vital parameters.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot intravenous fluid pumps.
• Ability to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitoring patient response to fluid therapy.
