Licensed Veterinary Technician - Surgery

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NYC is seeking a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician to join their thriving Surgery department. The position offers a $20,000 sign-on bonus based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical exams and accurately count vital signs.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor if abnormalities are detected.
• Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
• Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Comfortable with medical math.
• Able to take patients through entire procedures from pre-op to recovery.
• Aid in patient procedures using anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
• Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Maintain patient response to fluid therapy and identify signs of overload.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state of New York.
• Experience in surgical settings preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $51.00 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through the competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing may be eligible for higher compensation based on experience.

Schedule

Shifts are typically Monday through Friday, with options for evenings, nights, and weekends. Shift differentials apply for night and weekend hours.
