Primary Function

Facilitate and conduct a well-rounded program in youth development by implementing academic activities that enable youth to become proficient in core educational disciplines and apply learning to everyday situations. Engage children in exciting academic activities and interventions.

Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities)

  • Ensure the success and operation of the 21st Century Community Learning Center educational program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.
  • Prepare and deliver high-yield activities and interventions that facilitate active learning and follow established guidelines and resources.
  • Collaborate with school-day staff on members’ progress and the completion of 21st CCLC stakeholder surveys.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to students on their work, accomplishments, and progress.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Provide targeted support for identified members.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, Project Directors, Club Directors, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Create learning experiences which foster meaningful learning experiences for all 21st CCLC participants.
  • Implement innovative approaches, evaluate and refine instructional strategies including the effective integration of technologies to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent communication with supervisors related to the 21st CCLC program.
  • Stimulate and encourage interest in education and career development activities and encourage participation by all members.
  • Make accommodations and modify lessons to meet the needs and interests of students.
  • Collaborate with Curriculum Specialists and Project Director to improve quality implementation, strengthen engagement, and increase academic achievement.
  • Participate during 21st CCLC staff meetings and teacher training.
  • Enforce Boys & Girls Clubs rules and program guidelines.

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive & provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines & instructions; instruct; and advise & counsel.
  • External: Maintain contact and build relationships with community groups, schools' external staff and volunteers, donors and others to recruit or to assist in resolving challenges.

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • BA/BS Degree from an accredited, four-year university or college in a field related to education.
  • A valid Florida Educator Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience with Project Based Learning.
  • Experience with technology and analyzing student data.
  • Willingness to think outside the box; very energetic; a motivator.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication & computer skills (Microsoft Word required).
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
