Responsibilities
- Maintain sterile technique and prepare the surgical field
- Assist with instrument room turn over and daily needs
- Monitor and assist with OSC room turn over between cases
- Prepares self and the procedure room
- Educates surgical techs on new supplies and procedures
- Precepts new surgical techs
- Monitors surgical techs for compliance on established and new processes
- Liaison to surgeons and staff with instrumentation needs and patient throughput
- Disposes of sharp instruments accordingly
- Assures proper patient alignment throughout the procedure
- Maintains integrity of specimens and blood
- Maintains proper inventory levels
- Communicates with charge nurse and other surgical techs to ensure rotation of assignments
Requirements
The Certified Surgical Technician must have 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist or special procedures technician. A preferred educational qualification is an Associate's Degree. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Certification for Competency Testing (NCCT) is required.

- Experience as a surgical technologist or special procedures technician
