Certified Surgical Technologist Lead
About the role
Mercy Hospital in Durango, Colorado, seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist Lead. The position is full-time and includes working in the Medical / Surgical Acute department. The schedule is 72 hours per week, with variable days based on surgical volume and unit needs. Call is required approximately 5 times per 6 weeks.
Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN.
- Assist surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up of instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed.
- Assist in preparing and moving patients and sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment and rooms.
- Communicate case changes to staff, support, and coach staff to build confidence and growth.
- Hold staff accountable to policy and high standard of practice.
- Collaborate with the lead Anesthesiologist on daily case flow and efficiency.
- Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs/ practices for department associates.
- Act as leadership within the department to support staff, Manager and Director.
- Facilitating Training, Staff engagement, Supplies, Scheduling.
- Giving breaks and/or providing additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed during operations.
- Maintaining sterile field during procedures.
- Handing instruments to surgeons, anticipating surgeon’s needs.
- Maintaining and updating preference cards.
- This role covers Ortho and Sports med service lines.
- Scrubs on all cases, primarily Spine, Ortho (Totals/ Smaller Sports medicine cases), Robotics, Urology, plastics, ENT, GYN, Eyes, Dental, Gen.
Requirements
- Previous OR /Scrub experience Required.
- Previous Leadership experience Preferred.
- Basic Computer skills required.
- One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred.
- Experience in a specialty field preferred.
- HS Diploma/GED required.
- Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program required.
- BLS from the American Heart Association required.
- Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. * A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech required.
- Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery (CST) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required.
- Physical Requirements-Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly).
Qualifications
- HS Diploma/GED required.
- Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program required.
- BLS from the American Heart Association required.
- Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. * A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech required.

Pay
The posted compensation range of $29.68 - $49.98 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
