We offer various practice settings throughout Kent and Sussex Counties. The Kent Campus is 90 minutes from Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Baltimore. Our Sussex Campus is 30 minutes to the Delaware beaches.

The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) Division Coordinator is an advanced allied health professional who directly assists surgeons during operations and assumes accountability for assigned specialty surgical responsibilities. This includes supply and implant acquisition, inventory control, instrumentation, equipment training and troubleshooting, and maintaining surgeon preference cards and charges. This individual coordinates pre-admission screening, pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care with surgical technologist specialists, registered nurses, charge nurses, other departments, and physician office staff.

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive clinical competency in all facets of the CSA role.
• Conducts systematic, ongoing assessments of the patient’s health status throughout the perioperative experience.
• Acts as a primary patient advocate, anticipating, preventing, or responding to circumstances that could compromise the patient’s well-being.
• Recognizes possible adverse reactions patients may experience during surgical procedures.
• Verifies the correct surgical site immediately prior to incision alongside the surgeon and OR team.
• Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety standards published by regulatory agencies.
• Demonstrates clinical expertise and possesses essential mental discipline and fine motor skills to assist the surgeon.
• Strictly adheres to principles of aseptic techniques to prevent infection and promote optimal wound healing.
• Accepts appropriate delegated medical functions as defined within the CSA scope of practice.
• Uses surgical instruments to assist the surgeon and facilitate surgical intervention.
• Handles tissue safely and provides exposure of the operative site.
• Promotes and maintains hemostasis and assists with wound closure.
• Partners with the surgeon to collaboratively direct the patient’s perioperative course.
• Serves as an educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to patients, colleagues, and the community.
• Bases professional and practice behaviors on the scope of practice as defined by state, professional standards, and facility guidelines.
• Recognizes, documents, and intervenes in a timely manner for any emerging patient condition issues.
• Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, and departmental meetings at least 8 times per year.
• Maintains current knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and adheres to them.
• Performs all other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Surgical First Assistant Certificate Program.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) credential.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• At least 2 years of current working clinical experience as a Certified Surgical Assistant, with an in-depth understanding of servicing specific specialty area(s).

Pay

Salary range: $35.31 - $54.73 hourly.

Schedule

• Status: Full Time (72 hours).
• Shift: Variable.

Location: Kent Campus Hospital.
