About the role

Sentara Ambulatory Surgery BelleHarbour is hiring a Certified Surgical Assistant I in Suffolk, Virginia. This is a full-time position with a sign-on bonus up to $7,500 for new graduates or $15,000 for experienced candidates (1 year of experience required).

Schedule

7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. No call requirement, no holidays, and no weekends.

Responsibilities

• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables, and positioning equipment.
• Provide retraction for visualization of the surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing, and closure of incisions.
• Instill medications, apply surgical dressings, splints, and casts.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care.
• Use effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in departmental improvement efforts (preferred).

Requirements

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant program (required).
• Licensed Surgical Assistant – Virginia (required).
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) – National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) OR Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• 3 years of operating room experience (preferred).
• Demonstrates in-depth clinical and technical skills in surgical fields.
