About the role

This position is located at Houston Methodist Orthopedic Institute in The Woodlands, TX. As a Certified Senior Medical Assistant, you will support orthopedic specialists in managing complex patient cases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures
  • Preform medication reviews and document all care administered
  • Follow up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations
  • Coordinate care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians and community resources
  • Provide care coordination and patient education

Requirements

  • Five years medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT. NHA or Registered Medical Assistant
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
  • CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA)

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance
  • Ability to solve problems, use good reasoning and judgment
  • Provides safe patient-centered, compassionate and competent care
  • Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work with peers in a team situation
  • Possess an understanding of the patient population as it relates to the clinical disease process
  • Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
  • Demonstrates advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice
