About the role
This position is located at Houston Methodist Orthopedic Institute in Willowbrook, TX. The role is non-exempt, full-time, and requires a certification as a Certified Medical Assistant from AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with a BLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Assists with pre-visit planning and completes pre-visit workflows
- Performs vital sign checks, medication reviews, and reviews medical and social histories
- Documents care administered, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the EMR
- Follows up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations, medications, lab results, and other appointments
- Coordinates care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources
- Ensures patient satisfaction through peer-to-peer accountability and behavior modeling
Qualifications
- Five years medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
- High school diploma or equivalent
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
- Speaks, reads, and writes English proficiently
- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
- Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients
- Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
- Completes required continuous training and education
