About This Position
Med Surg/Ortho 3 South: 26 private rooms. Patient population includes total hips, total knees, spine surgeries, shoulder surgeries, general Med/Surg, and general ortho. Ages 18+. Patient average length of stay is 1-3 days.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties including: personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, oral hygiene, specimen collection/testing, positioning/ambulating, changing linens
- Promptly answers call lights
- Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making
- Assists nurse in monitoring patient condition
- Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation
- Places patient on/off monitors or equipment
- Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner
- Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients
- Orients patient/family to environment
- Assures the patient's belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge
Required Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association-Healthcare Provider. OnTrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program
- AND one of the following four qualifications:
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (this requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position)
- Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
