Nursing Assistant Orthopedic and Spine
About the role
Ridges Hospital is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the Orthopedic and Spine unit. The position is a .6 FTE, working 48 hours per 2 week pay period, with 8-hour shifts, every other weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun), and on the night shift (11pm-7:30am).
Responsibilities
- Assists the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care
- Transports patient and/or equipment
- Sets up and maintains patient rooms
- Reorders and stocks supplies
- Performs routine duties such as personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care, oral hygiene, specimen collection, position/ambulating, changing linens, answering call lights
- Maintains patient condition by monitoring vital signs, placing patient on/off monitors or equipment, reporting unusual findings
- Aids in admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients
- Orients patients and families to the environment
- Ensures patient belongings are accounted for upon admission, transfer, and discharge
- Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies
- Assists with patient transfers and ambulation using a transfer belt
- Documents tasks performed on appropriate forms
- Performs other tasks as needed
Requirements
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician)
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required
- Ontrack participants must be able to obtain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program
