About the Role

A Certified Nursing Assistant supports medical staff in administering care to residents with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. The position requires patience, compassion, and a desire to care for the elderly in a gentle and empathetic manner.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supportive services to nurse(s) and other staff as needed and performs duties as assigned.
  • Affords assistance to resident with or performs activities of daily living for resident in accordance with care plans and established policies and procedures.
  • Affords assistance to resident with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
  • Coordinates dining room services at assigned mealtimes, including set-up and clean-up, meal tray delivery, feeding assistance, and documentation of meal intake.
  • Delivers nutritional supplements to residents at assigned times and affords assistance as necessary to ensure intake.
  • Documents intake accordingly.
  • Affords assistance with weighing residents according to facility policy, and records weight in designated locations.
  • Reports weight changes to nurse and supervisor.
  • Affords assistance with tracking the condition of the resident’s skin.
  • Reports any presence of pressure areas, skin breakdown or skin tears to nurse and supervisor.
  • Affords assistance with carrying out toileting program activities.
  • Completes flow sheets daily to indicate that the specified task was done.
  • Documents the progress of each resident as directed by supervisor.
  • Keeps nurse and supervisor informed of factors that interfere with being able to perform the work as assigned (i.e., resident refusal, reassigned to nursing unit).
  • Reports changes in a resident’s condition to the resident’s nurse and supervisor.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Aide in good standing with the certification board or is a graduate of a state-approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state-approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment
  • Required: High School Graduate/GED preferred.
  • Preferred: Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Preferred: At least one year of experience as a certified nursing assistant in long-term care.
  • Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.
