About the role

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Support duties:

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment in a timely manner, including: obtain vital signs, urinalysis and blood glucose, microalbumin, and A1C.
  • Obtain, document and reconcile allergy and medication lists.
  • Collect and prepare specimens and relevant documentation for transportation to off-site laboratory, assuring accuracy in labeling and documenting.
  • Assists with any office examinations/procedures/tests/treatments.
  • Administers appropriate injections to patients of all ages and draw blood specimens, following office & CDC guidelines.
  • Maintain patient education resources and provide instruction and education to patients as instructed by providers.
  • Anticipate necessary labs, reports and consults the provider may need.
  • Reconcile all lab results in EMR.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff and patients with both clinical and administrative responsibilities.
  • Facilitate daily operations and responsibilities of the day-to-day patient flow within each designated area, acting as the first level “go-to person” for the providers, clinical and clerical staff regarding troubleshooting issues such as patient complaints, billing questions, registration issues.
  • Arrange for any replacement / upgrades to all medical devices.
  • Facilitate the interviewing, hiring and performance evaluation of staff, providing on-going useful, objective and constructive input.
  • Facilitate the orientation of new and per-diem staff, including: creating orientation schedule and training of both clinical and clerical duties.
  • Works to foster and facilitate a respectful and collaborative relationship between nursing team and MA team in order to successfully meet site specific and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent OR Four (4) years of health care or nursing experience.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide Certificate from an approved certifying organization.
  • One (1) year of experience in health care or nursing.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in health care or nursing.
  • Coursework in EKG and Phlebotomy.
  • Bilingual.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to assist in providing care for a designated group of patients under the direction of a licensed nurse and according to unit guidelines hospital policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • Able to perform in stressful situations and handle multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a positive and approachable demeanor.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software (Microsoft Office) with ability to learn and retain new applications.
  • Has the skills and knowledge to provide care to the age groups of the population served including: Knowledge of growth and development; Provide age-appropriate communication.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions, adapting to the changing pace on the unit, frequent interruptions, emergencies and critically ill patients.
  • High level of organization, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Maintains sensitivity, maturity and flexibility in coping with difficult situations.
  • High attention to detail.
