Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions

• Education: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing or public health (MSN, MPH) required and a midwifery program approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).
• Licenses & Certifications: Current California RN and Certified Nurse Midwife license and certification by the ACNM (or eligibility), CA CNM Furnishing License required, current BLS or ACLS certification from American Heart Association, Surgical First Assist training certification for C-Section, or equivalent, and first trimester and third trimester sonography training is highly desired.
• Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife, preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Prenatal Care: Provide prenatal care, labor management, and postpartum care for patients in accordance with standardized procedures and protocols and in consultation with a physician.
• Midwifery Protocols: Use advanced knowledge and specialized skills in midwifery to manage normal childbirth and provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
• Physical Exams: Perform physical, vaginal, breast, clinical pelvimetry, and general health status OB and GYN exams; order and/or perform approved laboratory and diagnostic exams, consulting with and/or referring complications to a physician.
• Medications: Order medications per midwifery protocols; document care rendered in patient electronic health record; evaluate patient progress; consult with other members of the health care team to develop and manage care and follow-up plans.
• Delivery Support: Independently manage and deliver low-risk patients, assume co-management of high-risk women when appropriate, and manage complications and emergencies until a physician arrives; assess immediate and ongoing status of labor, well-being of patient and fetus, and normalcy of progress.
• Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relevant to pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care; recognize emergent, abnormal, and unsatisfactory obstetric and neonatal conditions and initiate appropriate measures; initiate and carry out midwifery and medical interventions, such as but not limited to amniotomy, IUPC insertion, fetal scalp electrode application, catheterization, IV fluid administration, placement of cervical ripening balloon, episiotomy, anesthesia, and medications; support patients during labor.
• C-section Assistance: Assist physicians with operative deliveries as required; perform initial assessment of newborn status; assist in promoting establishment of airway and maintenance of body temperature; begin resuscitation efforts in the absence of a physician.
• Postpartum Care: Manage postpartum care; write postpartum orders as indicated; provide guidance, assistance, and referrals to community medical and social agencies and resources; sign birth certificates.
• Telehealth: Provide telephone triage and consultation to patients; participate in prenatal and postpartum patient education.
• Administrative Tasks: Perform Medi-Cal administrative activities which include assisting Medi-Cal beneficiaries to gain access to needed medical, social, educational, and other services.
• Medical Records: Prepare, input, and maintain organized, detailed, and accurate medical records.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the health care team on an ongoing basis; provide rounding and medical handoff to new clinical team each day when performing in-patient care.
• Mentoring: Willing to mentor and teach medical and midwifery students.

Compensation

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
