Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Certified Midwife - OB/GYN (FGP) Brooklyn, Fort Hamilton. In this role, the successful candidate will work with Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists in a private outpatient office of the NYU Department of Obs/Gyn. The responsibilities include providing comprehensive history and physical examinations, obtaining pertinent patient medical information, recording medical information in electronic medical record format, and providing accurate and sensitive patient counseling and follow-up care. The position involves working closely with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division in the care of women carrying high-risk complicated pregnancies, assisting in the arrangement of multidisciplinary approaches to these cases, and participating in various educational and administrative activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide family-centered midwifery care to patients in the context of a group practice.
  • Earn at least 20 CME hours per year.
  • Work at both Gouverneur and Bellevue Hospital Center as outlined in the Affiliation Agreement.
  • Participate in committee work and administrative functions.
  • Participate in data collection and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to midwifery coverage of the Birth Center and Labor & Delivery equally with other staff midwives.
  • Prenatal, postpartum, gynecology, and family planning care.
  • Ensure timeliness and interpersonal competence in interactions with patients, colleagues, and ancillary staff.
  • Maintain credentials at all appropriate facilities.
  • Check email at the start of each clinical day for messages from the practice.
  • Participate in the back-up call system for weekend coverage (4 weekends per year minimum).
  • Teach midwifery students, medical students, and house staff.
  • Participate in efforts to promote and expand the midwifery practice.
  • Maintain initiative by sharing in sick call and other emergency coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Midwifery Certification-NYS
  • 2-3 years clinical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in labor and delivery suite or high-risk pregnancy practice
  • Experience in contraception, well woman care, and menstrual irregularities
