Responsibilities

  • Evaluates need for and ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Reviews and accurately records laboratory results in prenatal record.
  • Reviews and interprets laboratory results with client.
  • Refers abnormal results to case manager for follow-up.
  • Affords educational support to patients and their families and encourages their participation in healthcare-related decisions.
  • Participates in constant labor and delivery coverage for caseload.
  • Exercises discretion and judgment when evaluating and determining disposition of clients in triage area appropriately.
  • Collaborates, consults, and refers with physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations.
  • Acts as stand-by for unattended private deliveries when physician is unavailable.
  • Acts as Cesarean section first assist for clients and private physicians as needed.
  • Completes post-partum rounds and discharges in a timely fashion.
  • Completes billing slip at time of discharge.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary conference.
  • Attends at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually.
  • Maintains contact with professional organizations.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEUs necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority.
  • Supervises Nurse-Midwifery students and family practice residents during their clinical rotation at CH.
  • Adapts to changing demands of workplace and assumes a leadership role in supporting co-workers adaptation to change.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Midwife
  • Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with Certificate of nurse-midwifery.
  • Successful completion of integration experience in an accredited midwifery program.
  • American Heart Association BLS.
  • NJ Nurse Midwife.

Qualifications

  • Physical demands include: Standing, Walking, Push/Pull, Twisting, Bending, Reaching forward, Wrist position deviation.
  • Occasional physical demands include: Sitting, Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Carry objects, Reaching overhead, Squat/kneel/crawl, Pinching/fine motor activities, Keyboard use/repetitive motion.
  • Continuous physical demands include: Talk or Hear.
  • Lifting Floor to Waist 15 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 10 lbs.
