Title: Certified Medication Aide / Patient Care Assistant - 1 Department of Corrections Description: Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for providing direct and indirect non-professional nursing care or outreach services in a correctional facility medical clinic under nursing or medical supervision. This includes performing duties such as taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting, escorting patients, assisting with activities of daily living, and ordering and receiving supplies. Typical Functions Performs direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living and hygiene needs, and obtaining certain lab specimens. Charts observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the patient s condition. Performs Delegated Or Other Specialized Functions As Educationally Prepared. Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment. Orders, receives and stores supplies and performs basic clerical functions. Participates in follow-up activities and tracking clients, schedules appointments and performs other related tasks. Provides case finding and recruitment of at risk persons for comprehensive health services. Level Descriptor This is the career level of this job family where employees perform a full range of patient care duties or services under nursing or medical direction. This includes taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, assisting with activities of daily living, observing and charting patient information, and reporting appropriate information to supervisors. It may also include providing various outreach services to clients within the community. Requirements All health care staff shall be required to complete the ODOC online training prior to coming to the facility. The time spent in the training session will not be billable to the ODOC. The ODOC online training provides required in-service training documents for temp medical suppliers to work at any ODOC facility. The online training is 16 modules, and a link will be provided for registrations to awarded suppliers. Documentation of completed training shall be provided to the facility Nurse Manger prior to assignment of a temporary health care personnel. Education And Experience Education and Experience required at this level consists of one year of experience in providing patient care. Special Requirements The Oklahoma Department of Corrections requires current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a (CMA) Certified Medication Aide for all levels of the Patient Care Assistant job family. Preferred Qualifications The Oklahoma Department of Corrections prefers current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health for Glucose Monitoring and Insulin Administration. Duration: 6-12 months with option to extend (not to exceed 12 months total) Location & Schedule Schedules are varied. Multiple locations that include, but are not limited to: Allen Gamble Correctional Center - Holdenville Dick Conner Correctional Center - Hominy Great Plains Correctional Center - Hinton James Crabtree Correctional Center - Helena Joseph Harp Correctional Center - Lexington James Smith Correctional Center - Lawton Lexington Assessment and Reception Center - Lexington Mabel Bassett Correctional Center - McLoud Oklahoma State Penitentiary - McAlester An indefinite number of Certified Medication Aides may be needed during the course of this contract.
