Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Medicine Specialty Clinic

About the role

This position may be filled as a Certified Medical Assistant Level 1 or 2, depending on individual experience, expertise, and qualifications. Special Benefits: Sign-on bonus up to $2,000 for qualified individuals.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care by taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor
• Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires
• Contributes to the assessment/re-assessment of patients
• Maintains patient status and organizes workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner
• Retrieves and transports medications, instruments and supplies
• Stocks exam rooms, takes inventory, and orders supplies
• Schedules arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities
• Aids in procedures, maintains sterile field and specimen labeling
• Gathers and documents patient condition information, including lab values, pain levels, patient education needs, nutritional status, and potential complications
• Cleans, sterilizes, and disinfects scopes, probes, instruments, and equipment according to manufacturer instructions
• Develops and implements appropriate patient care interventions
• Administers oral, intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous medications (excluding narcotics) as directed by a physician or physician assistant
• Transmits prescription refills as directed
• Arranges for hospital admissions and patient care services
• Precepts new medical assistants
• Participates in daily compliance audits, chart checks, and reporting safety events
• De-escalates patient concerns

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
• Experience: 0-3 years of experience in Patient Care as a Medical Assistant or similar patient care role preferred. 3-5 years of experience in Patient Care as a Medical Assistant or similar patient care role required.
• Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. One of the following certifications are required upon hire: Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT), Registered Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Personnel, Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health, Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National HealthCareer Association, National Certified Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant - National Association for Health Professionals.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to interact professionally with healthcare practitioners and patients. Ability to effectively communicate information. Ability to observe and obtain information from all relevant sources. Ability to work as a member of a team. Must be detail oriented and able to complete work tasks. Ability to maintain composure even in difficult situations. Ability to be understanding and sensitive to needs of others.
