Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community respectfully.
- Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, ensuring all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and medical records are correct and up to date.
- Measure vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Perform department-related clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Degree or GED.
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in South Carolina).
- BLS Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required prior to independent patient care at BSMH.
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
