About the role

Under the direct supervision of a Physician or Physician Assistant, the Certified Medical Assistant will perform medical procedures and tests, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients, and assist with basic examinations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical procedures and tests under the direct supervision of a Physician or Physician Assistant
  • Assist Physician with exams and tests
  • Measure and record vital signs, including:
    • Blood pressure
    • Pulse
    • Temperature
    • Weight
    • Height
  • Interview patients
  • Instruct patients on medication administration, diet, exercise, and other Physician directed orders
  • Keep accurate patient records and ensure that all related reports, information, and lab results are organized and filed with patient records
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and instruments
  • Prepare examination rooms between patients
  • Sterilize medical instruments after each patient
  • Answer calls from patients, physicians, and pharmacies and take appropriate action
  • Call-in prescriptions and prescription refills daily
  • Maintain accurate logs of office supplies and equipment

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education diploma
  • Certifications as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • 1 year experience preferred

  • Knowledge of the healthcare field, the medical specialty of the office or center in which they work, and medical terminology
