About the role

Be the heart of compassionate care as a Medical Assistant with us! In this vital role, you'll provide essential assistance and comfort to patients, ensuring they receive the best possible experience during their healthcare journey. You will assist medical providers, deliver direct nursing care in a medical office setting under the direction of a physician, and maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with the policies and procedures of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
  • Comply with the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Demonstrate support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by understanding compliance responsibilities, adhering to laws and regulations, and reporting compliance issues.
  • Assist in assessing patient needs by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity, and determining chief complaint; assess patients’ physical and mental status.
  • Complete all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record according to the practice’s charting policy.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians with medical treatments, exams, and procedures.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications and give intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections.
  • Perform venipunctures, CLIA-Waived, and non-CLIA Waived lab testing.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and visitors, including cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments; stock rooms and take inventory of supplies.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood, infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Arrange specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by physicians; notify insurance personnel to pre-certify surgeries or tests requiring pre-certification.
  • Answer office phones, assist the front desk in scheduling appointments, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Assist in checking out patients and help with referral processing and scheduling.
  • Occasional local travel to support other clinics is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program preferred.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience: Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school OR three (3) years of relevant work experience in a healthcare setting in lieu of a diploma, or a current Medical Assistant certification. One year of relevant work experience highly preferred.
