Overview

Texas Oncology is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support clinics in Round Rock North, Georgetown, and Harker Heights. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position from 8:30am-5pm, excluding weekends, call, and major holidays. Position level is determined by experience.

What Does a Certified Medical Assistant Do?

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
  • Records patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Aids physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient phone calls for referrals and makes other patient calls as directed.
  • Informs physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows.
  • Performs other administrative duties, such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • Entry-level position requiring 0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Level 2: Minimum 3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant, phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Level Sr: Minimum 5 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting, current CPR certification required.

Physical Demands

The work environment includes exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic. Requires full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extended periods, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs, corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
