Essential Functions

• Work within a correctional facility
• Administer medications and record daily medication to patients in state-approved facilities and completing other delegated nursing tasks allowed by state law
• Order stock medication on an as-needed basis, not to exceed established maximum inventory levels
• Reconcile daily medications received from pharmacy against faxed order form
• Distribute ordered medications to their appropriate storage area ensuring all stock medications are rotated, and all outdated medications are returned to the pharmacy
• Coordinate with different nurses to assist with patient care
• Observe patients and document changes in their condition
• Notify pharmacy of incarcerated individuals transfers or release
• Solicit guidance from the nurse as needed to perform tasks safely and efficiently
• Follows federal, state, and agency regulations to protect health and that of others
• Adhere to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures
• Gather samples for analysis
• Respond to emergency call signals, bells, or intercom systems to identify needs and report back to the nursing/HCP team for guidance
• Proficient with CPR and recognizes need to implement
• Receive re-certification training annually
• Absorb equipment and secure it
• Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned
• Attend training and meetings as required
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma or relevant qualification
• A minimum one (1) year experience in emergency or correctional service
• Must be a certified medical assistant and have completed a medical assistant training program
• Good understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology
