Responsibilities
- Assists clinicians and nurses with routine medical care for patients.
- Ensures all electronic health record (EHR) information is current.
- Documents basic intake items in the EHR.
- Sets up for and assists providers with exams and procedures.
- Gives non-intravenous injections, medication administration and handles minor procedures such as collection & testing of specimens, splinting and applying dressings, visual acuity testing, ear lavage and other duties as privileged to complete.
- Performs disinfection and cleaning of rooms in between patient visits.
- Stocks room with supply items and assists with maintaining medical equipment.
- May act as a clinical chaperone for provider during an exam.
- Performs intake for patients, including obtaining vital signs and height and weight.
- Aids in patient needs between visits.
- Manages patient phone calls and provides EHR management support for clinicians.
- Notifies patients of test results and other follow-ups as needed.
- Manages patient expectations and resolves patient concerns with consultation with provider, if needed.
- May assist in obtaining additional information for clinicians regarding information from patients regarding their care.
- Provides preventative health and wellness information to students, utilizing electronic and print resources.
- Advises patients regarding clinical appointments.
- Edits patient regarding health center policy and procedure, as well as services provided.
- Sets up for and assists with exams and procedures.
- May support other administrative, outreach, or operational tasks as needed to support the overall mission and function of the department.
- During periods of reduced clinical demand (ie: summer), may support other administrative, outreach, or operational tasks as needed to support the overall mission and function of the department.
- During non-peak times, responsibilities may shift to include cross-training, special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency and two years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to two years.
- Must possess valid certification as a Medical Assistant.
- Current CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within medical, health, human services, and counseling programs.
- Knowledge of available medical resources and terminology.
- Ability to differentiate emergency from non-emergency situations.
- Ability to assess patient condition independently or in consultation. Provide appropriate treatment or referral for treatment.
- Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.
