Responsibilities
- Receives and greets all patients and visitors professionally and provides assistance.
- Takes and relays telephone messages accurately.
- Collects and records patient information for medical records and payment purposes.
- Maintains patient files, charts, and records.
- Aids physicians and nurses during minor emergency or surgical procedures.
- Administers and records medication and injections as directed.
- Interprets physician instructions to patients and provides patient education.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
- Schedules office or hospital procedures and prepares accompanying data.
- Arranges for hospital admissions and provides necessary information to nursing staff.
- Triage patient calls to determine urgency and direct patient care.
- Manages and adjusts medication dosages and ensures patient compliance.
- Preloads patient information into the EMR.
- Maintains physician calendar in Outlook and coordinates with schedule in ProPM.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings and educational programs.
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of 17 years of age.
- Must be certified or registered as a Medical Assistant through a Certification Exam or a two-year Medical Assistant Program and Certification Exam.
- Previous medical office experience is preferred.
- The ability to speak and write Spanish is desired.
Skills
- Knowledge of and competency in performing patient care procedures, observations, treatments, and techniques utilized by the facility.
- Ability to perform vena puncture.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively and clearly to a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Knowledge of billing, office procedures, and computer skills.
- Analytical skills necessary to solve patient problems and interpret data.
- Ability to perform EKG's and other procedures applicable to the practice (e.g., treadmills).
Organizational Responsibilities
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains licenses/certifications in good standing throughout the fiscal year.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey processes, and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime and additional shifts as required.
