Certified IT Administrator LAN/WAN
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) oversees critical projects and technological initiatives within the NYPD, maintaining and enhancing the department's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and workstations.
About the role
Under general supervision, the selected candidate will play an essential role in providing citywide technical diagnostics, Active Directory administration, queue management, and technical hardware provisioning. This role acts as a primary operational catalyst, balancing immediate service desk demands, remote user troubleshooting, and hands-on maintenance of specialized agency hardware.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and deploy workstations, servers, printers, and peripherals across assigned Borough facilities or citywide as operational needs dictate.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, testing, and operational health checks on desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
- Identify developing hardware/software problems, replace failing components, apply approved updates and configuration changes, and document corrective actions to reduce downtime and maintain equipment readiness.
- Execute large-scale hardware rollouts, lifecycle refreshes, and vendor-supported repairs via workflows such as Dell TechDirect.
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues in both standalone and networked environments; leverage remote access tools (e.g., Remote Desktop, Microsoft Teams) to perform interventions, minimize end-user downtime, and maintain command operational readiness.
- Administer Active Directory to manage user accounts, Organization Units (OUs), Security Groups (SGs), data-share folder permissions, and Group Policies; utilize network administration tools to troubleshoot and resolve domain-joining and network connectivity issues.
- Maintain precise service tickets, detailed troubleshooting notes, and asset management records to uphold data integrity; create, revise, and maintain technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational runbooks.
- Support Information Technology Bureau (ITB) initiatives, strategic technology rollouts, and multi-site field operations both independently and within team environments.
- Provide supervisors with timely, structured updates on critical system outages, ongoing issues, and project milestones.
- Maintain strict compliance with departmental confidentiality protocols, anti-corruption policies, and command integrity standards.
