About the role
The position involves receiving, cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, and supplies. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory levels for surgical/house instrumentation and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Prints, verifies, and assembles the Perioperative Surgical schedule daily.
- Collaborates with dept. Supervisor and/or OR leadership team to coordinate Perioperative room instrument and equipment needs.
- Coordinates suitable substitutes for specific instrumentation.
- Coordinates room needs based on specific physician needs.
- Guides and assists Central Sterile and OR technicians in performing daily activities.
- Maintains sterilization records.
- Inspects, assembles, and sterilizes all surgical and house instrumentation.
- Restocks case carts with supplies, instrumentation, and equipment as indicated by surgeon preference cards.
- Restocks Surgical Services including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply, specialty carts, and top track.
- Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts, and equipment via clean cart lift, clean or services elevator as needed.
- Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies.
- Responds to instrument and equipment requests from physicians.
- Serves as initial contact for physicians and Perioperative staff to coordinate solutions to instrumentation problems.
- Reports and records missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment.
- Serves as initial contact for departmental inquiries from customers.
- Affords assistance in the training and development of new employees.
- Affords assistance in other Central Sterile Instrument Technician assignments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of sterile processing experience.
- Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.
Skills
- Use a computer keyboard, monitor, and mouse.
- Answer telephones and transcribe messages.
- Communicate verbally, written, and electronically with healthcare personnel, families, and patients.
