CEI Inspector (FDOT District 3)
About the role
The CEI Inspector position at SSR is responsible for onsite inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, construction specifications, and state guidelines. This role works to exceed client needs and assists in the supervision and training of CEI Inspectors Aide.
Responsibilities
- Supports work of Project Managers throughout the project cycle
- Records, measures, and verifies quantities
- Reviews Request for Payments and Invoices, approval, sign-off
- Maintains daily logs and field books (electronic or hardcopy)
- Appraises owner of project progress and problems
- Attends (and may conduct) progress meetings to discuss status and problems
- Inspects roadway materials used by the contractor (reviewing confirmation that all materials conform to owner specifications)
- Performs testing of construction materials (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.) as required by owner’s specifications
- Creates and approves contract change orders based on field modifications
- May create newsletters showing project status and progress
- Works to meet and exceed client needs throughout project
- Directs work and trains CEI Technician I and other field inspection staff as needed
- Reports maintenance problems occurring at project site to supervisor and collaborates to resolve issues
- Engages in self-education and training in order to keep up with current industry trends and changes
- Writes staff reports, letters, and reports on construction activities as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in construction inspection, one (1) year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction.
- Technical school graduate and at least two years of experience in construction inspection, one (1) year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction.
- Possession of a valid state issued Driver's License and required auto insurance.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification and necessary testing certifications (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.).
- Must have the following as required by the scope of work or must be able to obtain within six months from date hired:
- CTQP Final Estimates Level
- ICTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level
- ICTQP Asphalt Roadway Level
- ICTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level
- ICTQP Pile Driving Inspection
- CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection
- IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level
- IDOT Intermediate MOTNuclear Radiation Safety
- Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors
Qualifications
- Knowledge of DOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, construction regulations, and statutes regarding generally accepted construction and trade practices preferred.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Basic knowledge of state and/or local construction and building guidelines.
- Basic knowledge of construction practices relating to roadway reconstruction, rehabilitation, pavement management.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
