Catering Sales Coordinator - Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
Job Summary
The Catering Sales Coordinator will manage the event sales lifecycle for catering events at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to meet and exceed annual sales revenue goals. The role involves collaborating with various teams to secure and maximize catering opportunities, ensuring a positive client experience, and analyzing sales trends.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Builds and maintains relationships with location partner teams to secure and maximize catering opportunities
- Ensures smooth transition and communication with partner teams to execute positive client experiences
- Contributes to and manages the development of strategic sales initiatives
- Completes annual group sales reviews to identify strengths and opportunities
- Completes annual competitor analyses to optimize menu offerings
- Completes annual lost business analyses to investigate opportunities for increased secured business
- Analyzes sales trends and client needs to enhance overall event experiences
- Proactively engages in networking and lead generation activities
- Maintains successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses, and providing a return on investment for the location partner
- Promptly responds to client correspondence, phone, and email inquiries, including initial inquiries, proposal development for qualified leads, and follow-up as necessary to secure business
- Negotiates with clients using creative and attractive menu presentations and event proposals to achieve maximum revenue/profit potential and fulfill contractual responsibilities
- Works closely with the culinary and operations team to develop menus and staffing bids to impress clients and guests while maintaining operational feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and event appropriateness for venue facilities
- Creates banquet event orders (BEOs) and catering agreements in the appropriate system and submits for client signature in accordance with venue deadlines
- Works with venue or client to create floor plans and submit to local authorities
- Manages client relationships to set expectations and drive positive event experiences
- Handles client billing to ensure accurate and timely payment of deposits and final payments
- Solicits event feedback and compiles opportunities for improvement and enhanced event experiences
- Facilitates weekly BEO meetings with operations and culinary to ensure alignment on event expectations
- Collects end-of-night feedback from the operations team to include in event recap documentation
- Maintains CRM system of current and future potential clients
Job Requirements
- 2+ years in a catering sales role
- A hospitality or business degree is preferred
- Experience working on major events is preferred
- High level of computer literacy
- Passion for hospitality, food, and retail
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
