Category Manager Strategic Sourcing - Purchased Services - Remote

About the Role

Accountable for leading, guiding, and directing the functional responsibilities within an area of assignment. Enable ministry-level or enterprise-wide functional strategy to address internal or external business and regulatory issues. Provide functional expertise and ensure fulfillment of performance and service standards. Responsible for consistent operating performance and achieving financial goals. Identifies, defines, and solves complex problems that impact the management and direction of the business. Collaborates with Services Areas, Regions, and Health Ministries to ensure consistency and integration of strategy and operations while maintaining awareness of new industry developments and standards. Provides decision support, operations, and/or optimization leadership focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice, guidance, and leadership to RHM and Region leaders in developing strategies and achieving performance goals.
• Enable collaboration across and within service areas, RHM, and Regions to ensure consistency and integration of strategy and operations.
• Lead standardization, systemness, and optimization of policy, process, and methodology, establishing a national community of practice.
• Oversee Vendor/Contract Labor Management, including centralizing strategy and optimizing spend.
• Collaborate in system-wide strategy development and deployment of functional area priorities and initiatives.
• Support regional efforts to comply with functional area priorities.
• Accountable for the selection, evaluation, and overall success of the functional leadership teams.
• Serve as an organization-wide focal point for establishing functional strategies and governance over financials and staffing.
• Accountable for communication between service area functional area, RHM, and Region leaders.
• Responsible for measuring and reporting KPIs/metrics and value delivery.
• Provide advice, guidance, and leadership for the colleague life cycle.
• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program, and Code of Conduct.
• Lead strategic sourcing activities for complex initiatives to achieve significant cost reductions and year-over-year cost and productivity improvements.
• Manage competitive sourcing processes, complex contract negotiations, and limit exposure to high-risk projects.
• Maintain business relationships with suppliers and Trinity’s group purchasing organization (GPO), negotiating terms and monitoring supplier performance.
• Drive system compliance by optimizing the use of national and custom group purchasing agreements.
• Conduct competitive sourcing and negotiation processes for supplies, services, and equipment, including cost-benefit analyses.
• Collect, clean, and validate large datasets; analyze data to identify trends and develop actionable recommendations.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.
• Conduct category assessments, including spend analysis, demand forecasting, and supply market intelligence.
• Lead enterprise spend management activities, ensuring alignment with financial goals and budget targets.
• Prioritize projects, lead RFI/RFP/RFQ processes, and manage negotiations.
• Lead cross-functional teams for strategic sourcing initiatives to drive standardization and cost reductions.
• Promote a lean/process excellence culture and participate in joint quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage suppliers ethically and in accordance with Trinity Health policies.
• Develop primary liaison relationships with key suppliers and conduct business reviews.
• Maintain business relationships with GPO leadership and represent Trinity on advisory boards.
• Plan, manage, and oversee the lifecycle of complex sourcing projects, including contract review and legal collaboration.
• Utilize Supply Chain Management’s digital systems and ensure team adoption.
• Partner with Finance to validate forecasted savings and ensure effective contract handoffs.
• Track and measure supplier performance against scorecards and conduct supplier business reviews.
• Facilitate dialogue with stakeholders to remove barriers and resolve service issues.
• Establish procedures for managing a comprehensive sourcing process for assigned products/services/IT.
• Perform other duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business, supply chain management, data science, or clinical discipline; and at least seven (7) years of sourcing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Thorough knowledge of supply chain principles and practices with demonstrated ability to perform financial analysis.
• Comprehensive knowledge and skills in advanced data analytics and procurement practices, including intermediate to advanced Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar applications.
• Understanding of Lean and technical problem-solving concepts and techniques.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate complex findings clearly.
• Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Ability to address conflict and challenge conventional thinking at all organizational levels.
• Capability to understand customer and stakeholder businesses at financial, operational, and business impact levels.
• Ability to proactively identify issues and formulate viable solutions.
• Strong analytical skills, including constructing and executing complex analyses (e.g., Total Cost of Ownership, Net Present Value).
• Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills.
• Ability to quickly gain a fact-based understanding of the current supplier base and market trends.
• Knowledge of contract law and governing regulations with ability to collaborate with legal counsel.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.
• Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Healthcare industry experience is preferred.
• Highly proficient in data visualization, statistical analysis, and business intelligence tools.
