Case Manager - First Step
About the role
First Step is a specialized, partial care pre-school program in Burlington County for children ages 3-5 experiencing emotional and behavioral disturbances.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling and support
- Provide activities to address daily living skills
- Participate in the development, review and updating of individual treatment plans and comprehensive assessments
- Develop and make needed referrals for discharge plans
- Assist youth directly in addressing self-care needs
- Participate in case conferences
- Maintain clinical documentation
- Support auxiliary staff, student interns and volunteers
- Perform related duties as needed and appropriate to the provision of partial care services
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, BSW) in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited college/university
- One year experience with youth in a mental health capacity

Demonstrates respect for children/adolescents and their families
Demonstrate understanding of emotional disturbance
Demonstrate knowledge about the differential characteristics of serious emotional disturbance
Demonstrate knowledge about the role of psych. Medication in treating disorder
Demonstrate understanding of the effects of stressful life events including abuse and/or trauma
Involves youth and family in all aspects of treatment planning
Demonstrate ability to teach both simple and complex skills
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of strategies applicable to population
Identify family support resources and provide advocacy for their use
Understand the principles of collaborative community-based care
Communicate understanding of unique issues families face
Provide support while setting clear limits

Qualifications
