Carrier Sales Representative
About the role
As a Capacity Procurement Executive I, you will source and develop partner carrier relationships, managing both existing and future customer loads—including pickup, transit, and on-time delivery—while maximizing margins and providing exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Ensure customer freight is covered by managing pickup, transit, and on-time delivery.
- Present multiple modes of transportation options to customers.
- Negotiate rates with partner carriers to maintain competitive pricing.
- Dispatch carriers and update loads within the transportation management system.
- Maintain contact with carriers and internal partners to address challenges or issues proactively.
- Track and trace freight movements from origin to destination, resolving occurrences constructively.
- Develop the carrier base by making outbound calls to build new relationships and expand coverage.
- Communicate daily with partner carriers to understand equipment availability and haul preferences.
- Utilize partner carriers' truck lists and external load boards to match customer needs with carrier abilities.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal teams, partner carriers, and customers.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics, Sales, Marketing, or International Business preferred.
- Drive, assertiveness, passion, and dedication to succeed in the logistics industry.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to handle high call volumes and customer inquiries while maintaining excellent service.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; bilingual (Spanish or Eastern European languages) a plus.
Skills
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Previous experience in a full truckload environment a plus.
- Experience with McLeod or external load boards a plus.
- Basic knowledge of dry van, expedited, flatbed, oversized loads, refrigerated, and intermodal modes a plus.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Willingness to relocate for job advancement a plus.
