Key Responsibilities
- Construct and install structural wood elements including bridge framing, boardwalk decking, rail systems, and elevated walkway components
- Framing & Structural Layout: Measure, layout, and assemble structural framing components according to construction plans to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity
- Timber Fabrication & Material Preparation: Cut, shape, and prepare lumber and heavy timber components for installation in field construction environments
- Structural Hardware Installation: Install structural fasteners, brackets, plates, and hardware used in heavy timber and outdoor infrastructure construction
- Excavation: Perform precision excavation using rock cutting, drilling, and breaking techniques in steep or confined environments with hand tools, hydraulic breakers, and specialized equipment
- Concrete Placement: Assist with structural concrete formwork, reinforcement placement, and controlled pours in challenging terrain and weather conditions
- Steel Erection: Assemble and install structural steel components in limited-access areas, often using rigging systems and aerial lifts
- Tool & Equipment Operation: Operate drills, saws, hydraulic tools, and other construction equipment used on remote project sites
- Helicopter Coordination: Assist with helicopter-supported construction including load rigging, safety spotting, and precision material placement in accordance with FAA and site safety standards (experience preferred, but not required)
- Safety & Environmental Compliance: Follow OSHA safety regulations, fall protection standards, and Leave No Trace environmental practices in protected natural areas
- Crew Communication: Understand work directions, communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members, and maintain situational awareness on active construction sites
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of construction experience with an emphasis on structural carpentry or timber construction
- Experience building bridges, boardwalks, decks, or other structural wood systems including decking systems and heavy timber construction
- Ability to read construction drawings and interpret technical specifications
- Comfortable working at heights and in remote, physically demanding environments
- Proficiency with carpentry tools including saws, drills, and other power tools
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs across uneven terrain
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
- Ability to follow job site safety procedures and OSHA safety standards
- Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Chainsaw certifications
- Wilderness First Aid or Standard First Aid
- Familiarity with erosion control, water mitigation, and environmental best practices
- Welding or fabrication experience
- CDL License
