Duties
- prepare the layout of the projects
- work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors
- erect scaffolding and work on top of stilts, ladders, and top beams of buildings
- remodel state-owned buildings and installing partitions, cabinets, doors, and windows
- locate problems, determine appropriate procedures, and make repairs or adjustments
- consult with administrative personnel and prepare plans in conjunction with new construction
- review and monitor construction plans and existing structures for compliance with local and state building codes
Requirements
- A high school diploma is an asset
- 4 years of experience in commercial or residential carpentry is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of job site safety
- Comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes
- Appropriate installation and repair techniques
- Electrical and mechanical engineering and design
- The functions of various electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems
- Read and follow blueprints
- Interpret technical specifications and regulations
- Operate the necessary tools of the trade
- Communicate information clearly and concisely
- Deal tactfully and work effectively with others
- Establish timetables for projects
- Follow instructions and complete delegated tasks
- Lift 50 pounds or more
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, or in confined areas
