This role supports operations at a Naval Shipyard in Kittery.

About the role

We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, experienced Carpenter/Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. This full-time position involves collaborating with a team and interacting with federal employees and service members on a property owned by the United States federal government.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level trade work involving emergency service, recurring maintenance, preventive maintenance, and facility repairs for buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, equipment, and building components.
  • Perform general carpentry and woodworking tasks, including construction, repair, and installation of walls, partitions, trim, cabinetry, shelving, framing, and other building components.
  • Install, repair, adjust, and maintain interior and exterior doors, door frames, door hardware, locks, panic devices, hinges, weather stripping, and automatic door closers.
  • Repair and replace windows, window hardware, glazing components, and related building materials.
  • Perform roof repairs on various roofing systems, including patching leaks, replacing damaged materials, and conducting preventive maintenance.
  • Install, repair, and replace floor tile, ceiling tile, and other interior finish materials.
  • Install, finish, tape, patch, and repair drywall (sheetrock), including surface preparation for painting and restoration.
  • Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming; apply paints, stains, sealers, and protective coatings.
  • Inspect building interiors and exteriors to identify maintenance deficiencies, perform corrective repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance measures.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance activities, materials used, and work performed; report facility deficiencies requiring additional corrective action.
  • Perform assigned routine tasks and other general building maintenance duties as required.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Real ID (federal requirement).
  • Four or more years of experience in carpentry.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools and a wide variety of trade equipment.
  • Knowledge of the construction of commercial/industrial facilities, utilities, and equipment, and of pertinent trade principles, theories, and methods.
  • Ability to drive a motorized vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a drug test and a thorough background check (extending past 7 years) for access to a military installation.
