Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150+ retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by corporate offices in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL, distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities.

About the role

The Carpenter, Doors is based at the Mt. Airy, NC manufacturing plant and is responsible for constructing, assembling, and ensuring the quality of wooden structures through precise measurement, cutting, and assembly techniques, while adhering to safety and production standards and meeting customer specifications. This position reports directly to the Manager, Plant (or Supervisor, Plant) and does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets work orders, specifications, and blueprints to understand project requirements.
  • Aligns and fits hardware such as locks, handles, and hinges.
  • Ensures measurements are accurate for the fitting of the window or door.
  • Uses hand and power tools to cut and shape the framework for windows and doors.
  • Caulks and seals windows and doors to prevent water and air leaks.
  • Inspects and adjusts newly installed doors and windows to ensure they operate properly.
  • Wears appropriate protective gear and ensures safety procedures are followed.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and maintains a clean workspace.
  • Assists in other duties within the carpentry manufacturing plant, including:
    • Erector/Siding
    • Electrical
    • Flooring
    • Framing
    • Painting/Trim
    • Press/Rafting
    • Ramps/Accessories
    • Roofing
    • Small Structures
    • Trusses
    • Vinyl
  • Performs other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change with or without notice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Common knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work well as a team.
  • Ability to paint.

Skills

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in awkward and cramped positions.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to repeat the same or similar movements.
  • Good vision, including depth perception.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Ability to hear and talk.
  • Ability to keep up with production's fast pace.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
