About the role
The University of Alaska Fairbanks, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Wainwright, is seeking a full-time Carpenter (CT1) to join their skilled team. This entry-level position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response multiple craft projects across Fort Wainwright facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response multiple craft projects across Fort Wainwright facilities.
- Assist with inspections, construction, and general facility upkeep while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain military installation access clearance.
Qualifications
- Apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the specific trade; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrate 3 years related construction and/or carpentry experience.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Possess or be able to obtain within 6 months, a State of Alaska 16 Hour Certificate of Fitness and or certification for (abating) (performing operations and maintenance tasks on) asbestos containing building materials.
- Pass initial and annual OSHA asbestos physical.

Pay
CT1 /Step 1 $25.66/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).
Schedule
This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
