Carpenter

With projects throughout the mid-Atlantic, Christman Southeast Constructors (CSEC) offers opportunities to begin, continue, or grow your career in construction. We’re looking for Carpenters in our Knoxville and Cookeville, Tennessee regions.

Responsibilities

• Work with varied materials including wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
• Utilize tools such as chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to erect and repair structures.
• Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
• Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
• Safely operate a variety of saws and other carpentry tools.
• Check work to ensure it meets all code and specification requirements.
• Work on stilts, ladders, and the top beams of buildings.
• Perform building of handrails, steps, drilling, patching, and light concrete work.
• Build stairs, temporary doors, ramps, and temporary walls.
• Erect various types of scaffolding, including pipe and safety barriers, and prepare scaffolding for moving and handling materials.
• Maintain a clean working area using brooms and wheelbarrows, and follow material procedures.
• Interpret flat drawings to understand how they would look as solid objects.
• Travel up to 60 miles daily, depending on project location relative to residence. Reliable transportation is required.

Requirements

• Minimum two years of construction carpentry experience.
• Understand safety rules and tool/equipment instructions.
• Ability to take measurements and make calculations.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Must pass any skills tests required by the jobsite.
• Ability to problem-solve when errors occur.
• Keep tools and workspace organized.
• Conscious of time schedules and deadlines.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Able to tolerate heights without fear.
• Must have own hand tools; power tools provided by Christman.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
