Position Responsibilities
- Alter and install walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows
- Install trim, finishes, and interior/exterior building components
- Construct drywall partitions and temporary wood structures
- Install windows and doors, including mortising doors and frames for lock strike plates and keepers
- Install acoustical ceilings and floor coverings, including carpet
- Build forms for concrete walks, curbing, and steps
- Work with Formica, laminate coverings, and paneling
- Build or repair furniture, including tables, cabinets, work benches, shelving, bulletin boards, and blackboards
- Support facility maintenance tasks assigned by VA personnel
- Cook up daily work assignments with VA staff and the Contracting Officer’s Representative
- Complete daily service logs, timecards, and required documentation
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Hands-on carpentry experience in a commercial, institutional, healthcare, government, or facilities environment
- Current OSHA certification
- Ability to perform carpentry repair, installation, alteration, and maintenance work independently
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and standard carpentry equipment
- Ability to follow work assignments from VA personnel and coordinate daily with the COR
- Ability to complete daily service logs, timecards, and required reporting
- Ability to comply with VA facility safety, privacy, information security, and rules-of-behavior training requirements
- Ability to complete required VA access, badging, onboarding, and training requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in hospital, healthcare, government, or large institutional facilities
- Drywall installation and repair experience
- Door, frame, and hardware installation experience
- Acoustical ceiling installation experience
- Flooring and carpet installation experience
- Cabinetry, shelving, and furniture fabrication experience
- Concrete form work for sidewalks, curbing, and steps
- Laminate, Formica, paneling, and finish carpentry experience
- Experience working safely in occupied facilities with cleanliness, access control, and safety requirements
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Normal business hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Full-time onsite coverage
- 80 hours per pay period per Carpenter
- Federal holidays excluded
- Overtime is as-needed only and must be approved in advance
