About the role

We are seeking a Carpenter to join our team. This role involves constructing, altering, maintaining, installing, and repairing structures using various materials such as wood, fiberboard, gypsum board, mineral tile, and metals. You will also build and set forms for concrete construction, measure, saw, and install sheathing, and fit and erect exterior and interior trim.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, alters, and repairs structures related to floors, ceilings, roofs, stairways, doors, windows, modular cabinets, and finish carpentry components.
  • Saws, fits, and erects exterior and interior trim.
  • Installs locks and other building hardware.
  • Makes material lists, estimates job costs, prepares job records, and makes surveys of carpentry needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program or five years of carpentry experience, with at least one year at journey level.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in California.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to use tools of the trade.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, crawl, climb, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, balance, push, pull, and safely lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Safe working at heights and in confined spaces.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of standard carpentry practices, processes, materials, and tools.
  • Understanding of properties, adaptability, and uses of woods and other carpentry materials.
  • Compliance with safety practices and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, drawings, plans, and blueprints.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.

Skills

  • Safe and effective use of tools and machines of the trade.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Pay

$48.75 - $48.75 per hour.

Schedule

The position may be offered on a 10 or 11-month basis, with corresponding adjustments to salary and paid time off.

Employment Selection Process

The assessment process includes a written test, performance test, and interview. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring list based on their assessment score. Hiring departments may make job offers to candidates on the top three ranks of the hiring list.
