Carpenter

About the role

Christman Southeast Constructors (CSEC) is looking for a Carpenter in our Knoxville and Cookeville Tennessee regions. Carpenters are responsible for completing a variety of rough and finish carpentry jobs on construction project sites.

Responsibilities

• Works with varied materials including but not limited to wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall.
• Utilizes tools including but not limited to chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to erect and repair structures.
• Utilizes tools including but not limited to levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
• Joins materials with nails, screws, staples or adhesives.
• Safely operates a variety of saws and other carpentry tools.
• Checks work along the way to ensure it meets all code and specification requirements.
• Works on top of stilts, ladders and the top beams of buildings.
• Performs the building of handrails, steps, drilling, and patching, light concrete work.
• Builds stairs, temp doors, ramps, temp walls, etc.
• Erects various types of scaffolding including pipe and safety barriers, and make provisions on scaffolding for moving and handling materials needed for the job.
• Keeps immediate working area clean. Must use broom and wheelbarrows and follow material procedures.
• Able to look at flat drawings and understand how they would look as solid objects.

Requirements

• Minimum two years in construction carpentry experience.
• Must understand safety rules and tool/equipment instructions.
• Have the ability to take measurements and make calculations.
• Have good communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Must pass any skills tests as required by the jobsite.
• Ability to problem solve when errors occur.
• Keep tools and workspace organized.
• Must be conscious of time schedules and deadlines.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Must be able to tolerate heights without fear.
• Must have own hand tools, power tools to be provided by Christman.
• Must have reliable transportation. Must be willing to travel 60 miles a day dependent on project location relative to where the employee lives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum two years in construction carpentry experience preferred.
