Carpenter
About the role
Carpenters are responsible for completing a variety of rough and finish carpentry jobs on construction project sites.
Responsibilities
- Works with varied materials including but not limited to wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall.
- Utilizes tools including but not limited to chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to erect and repair structures.
- Utilizes tools including but not limited to levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
- Joins materials with nails, screws, staples or adhesives.
- Safely operates a variety of saws and other carpentry tools.
- Checks work along the way to ensure it meets all code and specification requirements.
- Works on top of stilts, ladders and the top beams of buildings.
- Builds stairs, temp doors, ramps, temp walls, etc.
- Erects various types of scaffolding including pipe and safety barriers, and make provisions on scaffolding for moving and handling materials needed for the job.
- Keeps immediate working area clean. Must use broom and wheelbarrows and follow material procedures.
- Able to look at flat drawings and understand how they would look as solid objects.
Requirements
- Minimum two years in construction carpentry experience.
- Must understand safety rules and tool/equipment instructions.
- Have the ability to take measurements and make calculations.
- Have good communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Must pass any skills tests as required by the jobsite.
- Able to problem solve when errors occur.
- Keep tools and workspace organized.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Must be conscious of time schedules and deadlines.
- Must be able to tolerate heights without fear.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good physical stamina and strength.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
