About the role
We are seeking a Career Services Specialist/Manager within the Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Education and Research Development Affairs unit (PGERDA) in People Services.
Responsibilities
- Develops, designs and builds content for the various career development services including Career Exploration, Assessment, and Planning; Career Readiness and Job Search Tools, Resume Writing, Interview Preparation and Negotiation.
- Leads and organizes career development events for academic career pathways, industry research positions and science related careers.
- Provides individual advising appointments, professional networking resources and events for all early career scientists.
- Creates and presents workshops to meet professional development and learning outcomes in partnership with the Director.
- Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Captures and maintains career opportunities resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science and 5+ years of experience in higher education, professional schools, career services, advising, recruiting, training, and professional development.
- Master's degree or PhD preferred with 2+ years of experience in career development and planning, and career advising.
- Proven ability in program planning and implementation, communication and teamwork, with an ability to create recognizable series and events that create value and impact beyond Career Services.
- Demonstrated advising skills and cultural competence to work with a diverse range of students/postdocs, with the ability to support graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and alumni who are applying to a variety of careers.
- Outstanding presentation skills in different formats and for different audiences, with comfort creating digital content (e.g., social media) and resources.
Qualifications
- Experience working with higher education students, with domain knowledge in life sciences, in a corporate or academic environment.
- Ability to create innovative programming reflecting the changing needs of students/postdocs, including usage of new technologies and tools (including AI).
- Quick learner, with the ability to assimilate and collaborate across teams, with demonstrated relationship-building and networking skills.
- Ability to think big with a can-do attitude.
Skills
- Strong expertise in modern, digital methods of career service delivery.
- Experience building successful collaborations.
